Copyright and Liabilities Policy

Summary

Sage adheres to the Canadian Copyright Act of 1985 (amended 2012).

The copyright and liabilities policy outlines Sage’s copyright and liability responsibilities for both the owner and the user of intellectual property accessed through the Sage website.

1.0 Definitions

Copyright refers to the right to produce, reproduce and copy works. The copyright owner has the sole right to decide when and how their work is to be reproduced. Copyright protection is automatic once the work is created, and applies whether or not a copyright statement appears on the material.

Liability refers to a legally enforceable obligation. Liability is the penalty for the damages or losses suffered by others whether the act was intentional or not.

2.0 Responsibility

2.1 Contributor responsibility

It is the responsibility of each contributor to ensure that each item posted to Sage adheres to all copyright rules and regulations. It is expected that members will only post their own publications and not those covered by an outside copyright holder. Sage assumes no responsibility for copyright violations on behalf of any contributor. Any liability for violation of copyright law is that of the contributor alone.

2.2 User responsibility

All users of Sage are expected to follow all Canadian copyright rules and regulations. Generally, single copies may be made of copyrighted materials for research or educational purposes. Any referencing of copyright material must be acknowledged. Any mass reproduction of copyright material requires the consent of the copyright holder. Sage assumes no responsibility for copyright violations on behalf of any user. Any liability for violation of copyright law is that of the user.
