The report provides information with reference to current policies, procedures, and scientific literature on:

  • the risk of accidental occupational exposure to HBV, HCV, and HIV;
  • post-exposure protocols and treatment;
  • testing technologies and procedures;
  • benefits to the exposed worker of information about the source person’s serological status, risk factors, and medical history;
  • harms of compulsory testing to the source person;
  • positions of professional associations or unions on the management of occupational exposure, including testing the source person;
  • improved prevention and management of accidental occupational exposure; and
  • steps that could be taken to encourage voluntary informed consent to testing by source persons
