Using Rights and the Law to Reduce Women’s Vulnerability to HIV/AIDS — A Discussion Paper

View this in English

The objective of this paper is to begin to identify a variety of short-term legal and rights-based strategies that can mitigate the immediate impact of HIV/AIDS in terms of HIV prevention and improving the lives of women who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

This paper will argue that both human rights and the law can play an important, if limited, role within a wider set of national and international strategies. Written from the perspective and experience of a gender, rather than an AIDS, legal activist, it seeks to address the intersection of legal activism on gender equality and HIV/AIDS by providing a broad understanding of the issues.
